You can Usually Rock Hop this Creek!! This is the first creek crossing you come to when you start at the northern end of Jones Gap Trail, about 3/4 mile or so from the trailhead.
Due to the massive amounts of rainfall this area had received, all the streams were WAY more full than usual!
UPDATE as of April, 2014: There is now a bridge over this section of the stream!! A NICE addition to this trail! - nc-hiker
Photos from a 13.4 mile out and back hike, beginning at the northern end of Jones Gap Trail where it comes out on US276 at the NC/SC state line, heading south (or really east) to the turn off to Rainbow Fall. I then followed that trail the mile and a half up (and 1000 feet elevation UP) to Rainbow Falls. I then retraced my route back to the car.
Along the way, I was treated to a gorgeous, rain engorged Middle Saluda River raging alongside me the entire way. Dargan's Cascade and Jones Gap Waterfall, as well as Rainbow falls had many, many times their normal water volume.
