Forest Service road wander and Plane Crash
Photos from two days' worth of hiking off the FHT from Bad Creek trailhead. I wanted to investigate where an old gated road went that intersects the FHT about 2.4 miles from the Bad Creek Trailhead ... about 1/2 mile before the Thompson River crossing.
Turns out it provides a nice alternative option, paralleling the FHT along the ridge to the north. A second old road bed branches off to the north where the first roadbed crosses the state line. It climbs up to the top of Long Spur Ridge, which has a flat, marshy plateau area at the top. Continuing on from there, the old roadbed heads into private property towards the riding stables that are on Hwy 281.
And, I ended the first day's hike with a bushwhack down to where the remains of a small, single engine 4-seater plane crash still lie on the very steep hillside.
