Green Knob Shuttle Hike
Photos from a hike done with Mark on Feb 5, 2016. We started at the northern trailhead of Green Knob Trail, made the long (3 miles), steep (3000' elevation gain) push up to Green Knob's summit, then continued south to the MST. Heading east on MST brought us (with a short bushwhack) to the base of Mt. Hardy Falls, and then to our hike's completion where MST crosses Hwy 215.
The day was bitterly cold ... the temp was 19° when we started the hike, and I'm sure the temps never rose much above the low 20's. Additionally, there was a steady, stiff, NW wind blowing all day until around 2pm when it finally subsided. I had water freezing in my (plastic) water bottles in my pack!! I had to move my sandwiches to the inner part of my pack that lays right next to my back to keep them from freezing!!
