Photos from several different hikes to Lost Cove, a 700 or so acre area in Yancey County, NC that was home to a thriving community of mountain folk from the 1860's to the 1950's.
There are no roads into the area (there never were, which was a primary reason for the Cove's isolation). A 3.5 mile foot trail now leads to the now deserted cove from the Forest Service road that winds around the top of Flattop Mountain.
Most of the photos are from my July, 2013 hike into the Cove with Van. I've included a few from my 2009 and 2014 hikes to "round out" the photo tour, and in some instances, to show the viewer the change over the years as nature is taking over. More info on my web page.
